President of Ghana and Chair of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of States and Government, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has strongly expressed confidence in the maiden African Migration Summit held at the Accra International Conference Center -Ghana as a potent force for resolving African migrants problems in the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

The Ghanaian Leader who has been petitioned to quickly ratify International Labour Organisation (ILO ) C189/190 at the African Migration Summit 2021 promised to take up urgent steps to append signatures to ILO C189/190.

The petition, presented by the United Nations Youth Association, Ghana, together with Nekotech Center for Labour Migration Diplomacy seeks to whip up the interest of President Akufo-Addo to ratify the International Labour Organization C189/190.

Presenting the petition to Akwasi Ababio Awua, the Director of Diasporan Relations at the Presidency, the Head of United Nations Youth Association H.E Lilian Sally Addo said “Ratification of ILOC 189/190 by President Akufo-Addo is urgent to tackle head-on issues of migration to ensure higher labour standards and comprehensive framework for decent labour practices”.

Opening the summit, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo unveiled the maiden edition of African Migration Summit organized by Nekotech Center for Labour Migration Diplomacy in Ghana in collaboration with the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM).

The summit organized on the theme “Labour Migration: Shifting the Paradigm to Benefit Africa” seeks to propel the surest strategy, mission and vision of finding lasting remedy to problems facing African migrants.

Meanwhile, a member of the African Union Advisory Committee on Labour and Migration H.E Rev. Dr. Princess A. K Ocansey has been awarded the African Migration Legendary Leadership Awards at the 2021 African Migration (AM Summit 2021) for being at the forefront of tackling migration issues on the African continent.

The award is in honour of her distinguished and outstanding role in finding relief packages for stranded African migrants, quality secured jobs, safety and reintegration.

Speaking on the sidelines of the awards ceremony in Accra-Ghana on Thursday, February 25, 2021, the Nekotech Center for Labour Migration Diplomacy Co-founder Dr. Ocansey who expressed joy and fulfillment also proposed “rigorous training for recruits overseas”

Dr. Ocansey told Africa Nakua that “Adequate training will limit workers, once they are trained, they become valuable to the receiving country, they are paid well, enough amenities and if there is a legal framework where you have a bilateral agreement between countries, the recruits are paid better than trafficked migrants”.
